About comforters and their cosy filling

Comforters traditionally cover the bed from head to foot.   This sumptuous item of satin bedding would normally drop from between 15” – 22” (37cm - 55cm) over the sides and over the foot end of the bed.   The comforter itself is made with two pieces of fabric large enough to cover the bed.   They are then stitched together and filled with fiber which could be a synthetic or natural filling.   For example, the filling could be South American Alpaca fleece.  This is particularly good as the fibers absorb and release moisture from the air so that the filling stays warm dry and comfortable.   If the filling for the satin comforter is real feather down, manufacturers use a 100% cotton covering, preventing the sharp feather ends from leaking through.   This also increases the durability of the comforter.   The cotton is then covered with satin.   A satin comforter is quite often quilted with different, quite beautiful designs.   This quilting has the advantage of trapping the filling in pockets so that the comforter is uniformly warm.
