Water bed sheets - for you and your water bed

The different varieties of water bed linens and which is best for you

Most water bed owners already know of the two types of waterbeds, the modern soft-sided bed or divan and the rigid frame bed often referred to as the 'hardside' waterbed.   An essential part of your water bed sheets and bedding for both types of bed is a quilted mattress protector to stop body oils damaging the vinyl.   Standard bedding will fit most soft-sided beds  -  so you're OK there.   Now for the rigid frame bed though, bedding companies have cleverly sewn in a triangular flap which holds the bottom sheet safely in place by slipping around and under each corner.   This stops the sheet from moving and slipping around.   It works well and keeps sleeping and making the bed easy.   Many producers also make a combination of a flat and fitted waterbed sheet set where the upper and lower sheets are sewn together across a part of the bottom end. Another system is that they also sew down one side.   This again keeps bed-making straight forward.  These waterbed sheets are usually custom made and can be either right or left opening.

Choices galore with some wonderful bedding fabrics
The different materials used for bedding can be sateen, cotton, satin, flannel, polyester, percale and several others like silk and so on.   Flannel has that cozy, snug quality and cotton is cooler and absorbent. The others all have a sheen of varying intensities.   The ‘thread count’ is a point to consider  –  200 threads per square inch is a good average - 180 is quite acceptable as well.   If you go for a higher count, the bedding will be increasing in price faster than quality.   If you wanted to consider satin sheets and bedding:   100% polyester or nylon satin makes for a durable, comfortable product.   I mostly suggest Charmeuse satin.   It has a smooth feel with a lustrous sheen and drapes beautifully.   It's durable and easy to care for  -  washing, etc.   I would always go for a woven satin sheet next to the skin, not knitted which has a rough texture and is more suitable for bedspreads or comforters.

'Off the shelf’ or 'made-to-measure’ - they're there to choose
You can get both ‘off the shelf’ cheaper than ‘made-to-measure’  -  customizing gives you precisely what you want, should you so wish or require.   For the soft-sided waterbed, ready made products are probably fine.   If you want a better fit  -  perhaps you already have a customized waterbed  -  you'll be needing made to measure .   It's worth knowing about the Flex-Fit sheets with their patented corners.   They stretch both ways, up and down, fitting all mattresses.   There is a range from standard thickness to premium thickness which is about 9” (22cm).   For all other bedding  -  comforters, pillowcases, duvet covers, bedspreads etc.  –  just select sites that have conventional bedding, or a water bed sheet supplier.
